12. Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave (BPPL)
Notification and Eligibility As soon as an employee informs you that they are eligible for BPPL, you should read and familiarise yourself with the BPPL policy. Confirm that the employee meets the eligibility requirements, including that they are taking on the main caring responsibility for the child following the death of the primary carer. BPPL is a day-one right, so eligibility must not be refused based on length of service. Ask the employee to provide relevant documentation where necessary, such as the child’s birth certificate, adoption placement papers, parental order, or other proof of their relationship to the child’s primary carer.
